Is Persistent Watering from Baby’s Eyes Normal?
Is Persistent Watering from Baby’s Eyes Normal?
Yes, it’s quite common in newborns!!
In newborn babies, the naso-lacrimal duct
(which connects the eyes to the nose) is naturally narrow. Even a slight
blockage can cause persistent watering or tearing from the eyes.
But don’t worry—this is usually harmless and resolves on its own with some
simple care.
What You Can Do at Home:🏠
You can gently massage the area over the nasal
bridge (both sides) to help open the duct:
- Use
clean hands with neatly trimmed nails.👆
- Gently
massage 10 to 15 strokes at a time, 6 to 7 times a day.
- Continue
this for 1 to 2 months or until the watering stops.
- Always
use light pressure—never press too hard.
A video tutorial is attached to guide you step
by step.
When to be cautious?
Sometimes, persistent watering could also be due to:
- Upper
respiratory tract infections
- Conjunctivitis
(eye infection)
- Allergic
conditions
If you notice redness, discharge, or swelling,
or if the tearing doesn’t improve, consult your pediatrician or an eye
specialist.
